• Wrinkle reducing injections

Wrinkle reducing injections have been used for over 20 years, both in the NHS and private clinics. It is the most popular, safe and effective way of softening lines and wrinkles. By using muscles repeatedly throughout a lifetime, the skin creases in areas of greatest use; e.g. frown lines, crow’s feet around the eyes and forehead lines.

When used in a medical setting, small doses of chemicals block the release of a chemical by nerve cells that signal muscle contraction. By selectively interfering with the underlying muscles’ ability to contract, existing lines are smoothed out and, in most cases, are nearly invisible.

Wrinkle reducing injections take about 4-5 days to take effect, and lasts 3-6 months.

Getting wrinkle reducing injections only takes a few minutes and no anaesthesia is required. It is injected with a fine needle into specific muscles with only minor discomfort.

It is advisable to stop taking aspirin and any anti-inflammatory drugs 2 weeks before treatment in order to reduce bruising.

    What’s included in the consultation?

The nurse will discuss any relevant medical history, and try and ascertain your expectations, assess your suitability for treatment and then discuss possible treatment options for you to consider. The nurse will explain the treatment process and any possible risks and complications, provide post-treatment advice and will photograph the area(s) to be treated prior to treatment.

What are the possible risks or complications?

Some patients experience pain, stinging, burning, bruising/swelling and skin redness around the treatment area following the treatment session. Some have also repeated headaches or general face pain. It’s also possible that there may be local muscle weakness, eyelid drooping or asymmetry of facial expressions. These complications generally occur within 2 days, if at all, and resolve gradually.

  • Dermal Fillers

The fundamental working principle of dermal fillers is ‘plumping’. This simply implies that they will ‘plump’ up the area around the region that has received the injection, leveling with other parts of the skin, thus making it look less sunken. The skin will therefore look plump and firm, fresh and younger.

The dermis of the skin constitutes the skin’s structural elements like nerves, hair follicles and blood vessels. The major component of the dermis is collagen, and this contains a substance caused hyaluronic acid. It gives the skin its firm elasticity and strength, offering a fundamental support to the skin. As we age, the epidermis (the other layer of the skin) becomes thin, and collagen is also lost and existing collagen becomes ineffective. This results in wrinkles and folds.

It is at this point that dermal fillers are necessary to reduce the consequences of the deteriorating epidermis and weak collagen. Dermal fillers will technically work as a replenishment for natural collagen, and depending on the quality of the filler, impressive results can be achieved.

Different dermal fillers are designed to treat a specific area such as the lips or cheeks, backs of hands, areas around the mouth and nose-to-mouth lines. They can also treat smokers’ lines on top of the lip and frown lines. Choosing the right filler for a certain area is discussed between the nurse and the client to ensure the best results.

The cost of the filler will always depend on the quality of the filler and the depth of treatment which will be carried out. Generally, the overall prices will vary from £220.

One should, however, avoid the temptation to run for cheap treatments, because they may not be the best alternative. Quality should be considered before the price. The result of a cheap treatment may not be all that pleasing, especially where one has an idea of what results should be attained by the end of the treatment. Quality should always be the number one factor to bear in mind.

  • Lip Augmentation

As our faces age, we not only lose facial volume but our lips lose volume too. The lips become thinner and smaller – a real age give away!

Fillers are used to create fuller and more natural looking lips. Full, plump lips are very youthful looking. We use fillers that are specifically designed to restore fullness and create beautifully shaped lips

We can inject fillers inside the body of the lips and also along the Vermillion border which gives a real definition to the outline of the lips.

  • Cheek Enhancement

As we age, we lose facial volume and the full-faced youthful look sadly disappears.

Gravity effects can cause our skin to sag. This causes the cheeks to lose definition and hollows begin to develop.

Fillers are a very effective way of improving our appearance. They restore facial symetry to shape and contour the cheeks giving your face a more youthful appearance.

  • Chemical Glycolic Peel

Over time, our skin tone can appear uneven, wrinkles, spotted or scarred. Lifestyle can be a factor in the quality of your skin. Acne or too much sun exposure can be other factors.

Chemical peeling is exactly what it says on the tin – peeling of the skin using a chemical. A chemical peel removes the outer layers of the skin. This freshens the skin, removes some sun spots and rough scaly patches, and reduces freckles and irregular pigmentation. It also reduces fine wrinkles. There is some evidence that it also may reduce the risk of skin cancer. It is safest and most effective on the face.

A glycolic peel is the safest and most effective method of chemical peeling. It can be used on most skin types. Skin that is very fragile and thin (for example if sun damaged) can be significantly rejuvenated.

At The Look You Deserve we use Glycolic and TCA peels and can be used on:

    • Acne scarring
    • Age and liver spots
    • Fine lines and wrinkles
    • Freckles
    • Skin pigmentation
    • Rough and scaly skin patches
    • Sun damaged skin

Patients usually only experience some redness and “warmth” following treatment. A change of skin colour is evident and patients usually experience redness and skin darkening, which fades over a few days.

  • Dermaroller

A Dermaroller is a 2-inch barrel covered in ultra-fine needles designed to pierce holes into the skin, a bit like aerating a lawn!

Dermaroller works by producing thousands of microscopic needle holes in the dermis of the skin. It ‘tickles’ collagen in the dermis to reproduce new collagen and elastin cells. These cells are responsible for ‘plumping out’ the skin, giving it a youthful look.

It can significantly improve the appearance of acne scarring, ageing and sun-damaged skin, wrinkles and stretch marks. In fact, the worse your skin is, the better the result!

After the skin is numbed with a topical local anaesthetic, the treatment takes about 30 minutes. Following the treatment, the skin looks red as if sunburnt. However, a special moisturising cream is supplied to apply until the redness disappears.

Results are seen after a few days. Your skin should look more plump and smooth.

To ensure optimal results, a course of 3 treatments is recommended, 4 weeks apart. The numbing anaesthetic cream and the moisturising cream are included in the price.

  • Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)

When conventional methods do not work, wrinkle reducing injections can be highly effective against excessive sweating in the arm pits or the palms of the hands and facial sweating.

Chemicals will temporarily paralyse the glands that produce the sweat so you won’t sweat for about 9 to 12 months!

Tiny injections are given into the area through a needle so small there shouldn’t be too much discomfort, although you can have a cream on to numb the skin before hand.

Injections are 95% to 99% effective against excessive sweating.
